Speculative

Abstraction of ideas represented and generated by five unbuilt projects from OMA’s first decade: The Agadir Convention Center, NAI, Den Hague, Zebruge and ZKM.

Domesticity is a fragile and poorly defined concept which architecture manipulates in all instances. The project aimed to directly confront this fragility, positioning common spaces and activities adjacent to the bedroom.

Positioned in the London greenbelt, the project develops a narrative of a utopian project for a presumed exodus from London city center amidst the rampant housing crisis. Similar to the exodus from city centers in 1950’s US to the utopian suburbs.

The project uses the exquisite corpse method to combine the formal architectural ideas from the five OMA projects addressed above, to test and manipulate domesticity as a programmatic concept, while being aware of the satire that the project represents as a utopian future.
